Kristin Olson, Baroque oboe

Kristin Olson has performed in orchestras, chamber groups, and as a soloist across North America and Europe. As an entrepreneur, projects have included a successful reed-making business, a classical and romantic orchestra and opera company, and an uplifting hospital concert series.

Her relationship with performance is deeply intertwined with the experience she had in 2015 when she suffered a number of spontaneous collapsed lungs (spontaneous pneumothorax). As an oboist, she was unable to play for nearly a year and underwent a painful but successful surgery to correct the issue. Kristin was so affected by the experience that she founded the Mount Sinai Concerts for Patients to give back to the community that made her career possible again.

Kristin holds degrees from the California Institute of the Arts, the University of Southern California, and the Juilliard School. She lives in Charlotte, NC, with her husband, two children, and the bluebird who has recently taken up residence in their backyard birdhouse.
