Cellist Alan Richardson is best known for his work as a chamber musician, particularly for his tenure as founding cellist of the Aeolus Quartet, with whom he performed hundreds of concerts across North America, Europe, and Asia from 2009 to 2021. A passionate performer and educator, he has performed at festivals including Lincoln Center’s Great Performers, Chamber Music Northwest, and Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival, and has given performances and workshops at non-traditional venues across the globe, ranging from bus stations, farmer’s markets, breweries, and coffee shops to classrooms, libraries, and soup kitchens.

His discography includes critically acclaimed albums with the Aeolus Quartet (Ariel and Other Poems, etc.), The National (I Am Easy To Find), A Far Cry (The Blue Hour, A Gentleman of Istanbul), Loadbang (Plays Well With Others), and albums featuring the works of composers Ricky Ian Gordon, Douglas Boyce and Robert Gibson. He can also be seen in an on-screen performance of Brahms C minor String Quartet in the hit Netflix limited series The Defenders.

When not performing, Alan works as a software developer in Richmond, VA, where he also
enjoys birding, hiking, biking, and exploring Richmond’s excellent restaurant and brewery
scenes.
