Immerse yourself in the evocative beauty of nature as CMSCVA pays homage to the landscapes that have inspired classical music’s greatest masterpieces. The evening begins in the ‘Old World’ with Hummel’s chamber reimagining of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6, the ‘Pastoral,’ a masterwork that transports listeners to the European countryside through vivid depictions of flowing brooks and rustic dances. In a bold response from the ‘New Voice’ of the West, Copland’s Appalachian Spring captures the expansive spirit of rural America, weaving folk melodies and open harmonies into a celebration of renewal. Bridging the journey to our present time and place, we are proud to premiere Midwest Cardiopoint by Richmond composer Chloe Biggs. Together, these works create a sonic tapestry that invites you to experience the natural world across three centuries and two continents.

Program:

Beethoven/Hummel: Symphony no 6 (“Pastoral”)
Chloe Biggs: Midwest Cardiopoint (premiere)
Michael Abels: Delights and Dances
Copland: Appalachian Spring
