Free Concert: FROM THE SOUTH

Richmond Main Public Library Auditorium 101 E. Franklin St., Richmond 23219
October 17, 2026
2:00 pm

Journey with CMSCVA across continents and cultures in a performance that celebrates the musical influences of the global and American South. Experience the rhythms of the Delta and the Andes in the syncopated energy of Wynton Marsalis’s New Orleans inspired String Quartet no 1, alongside the haunting, indigenous Andean folk textures of Alberto Ginastera’s Impresiones de la Puna. Discover the power of American melody in the deeply expressive, spiritual-infused Romanticism of Florence Price’s String Quartet in A minor. And for a Mediterranean finale, travel to sun-drenched Italy through the driving energy and soaring, high-octane melodies of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Souvenir de Florence.

This event is presented by the Richmond Public Library’s Gellman Room Concerts series and is free to all.

Program Details:

Alberto Ginestera: Impresiones de la Puna for flute and string quartet
Florence Price: Moderato from String Quartet in A minor
